Mary Street Bakery

Sometimes, you’ve just gotta state the obvious. Mary Street’s donuts have been one of its biggest draw cards since its humble Highgate beginnings. While the salted caramel always seems to be the most popular, I’m often enticed by their limited edition donuts – whether that’s s’mores, rosemary custard, apple crumble, or tahini maple.

Top Dup

82 Archibald Street, Willagee

Top Dup have been slinging donuts in Perth for the past almost seven years – which in the hospitality game, might as well be forever! With pop ups, coffee carts, market stalls and shipping containers under their belt, they opened up their Willagee bakery to the public in 2017. Now, the donuts: a signature brioche dough. And then some really, really decadent toppings. Recent specials include baklava nut, Caramello Koala deluxe, maple bacon and a Nutella bomb. Not for the faint of heart!

Chu Bakery

The almost-constant line out the door will attest to the fact that Chu has been killing it since opening their William Street bakery in 2015. Picture-perfect pastries and delish loaded toasts are part of the equation, but a personal favourite has got to be the chilli passionfruit donut. Filled with tangy passionfruit custard and then rolled in a chilli-sugar mix, this donut caused me to exclaim to my friend, unironically and without shame, “This is a flavour sensation!” The things you do for love.

10 King William Street, Bayswater

Brunch favourite tbsp. may be known more for their Asian-inspired breakfasts than anything else, but the donuts are worth leaving room for. Maintaining the Asian influence, expect to see flavours like pandan and coconut, matcha, salted egg and Thai milk tea. Keep an eye out for their old fashioned donuts too – the filled donut’s crunchy cousin.

Levi’s Doughnuts

Fremantle Markets, 74 South Terrace, Fremantle

Sometimes, all you need are the classics. This long running Freo market fave keeps this simple with just three flavours – traditional, blackberry jam filled and dark chocolate filled, each done to perfection. Keep an eye on Levi’s Facebook page to stay up to date on his location.

Yo Donuts

Donuts delivered right to your door? That are vegan? What a remarkable time to be alive! Newcomer Yo Donuts has been dishing up boutique, small batch and entirely vegan donuts since 2017. For $35, you can pre order a box of 12 vegan donuts with flavours like matcha, pistachio and white chocolate, strawberry pistachio or taro and almond. And remember to check out their Instagram to see what markets they’ll be setting up shop at next!

Glazed and Confused

I can’t talk about donuts in Perth without giving an honourable mention to Glazed and Confused. At the forefront of Perth’s love for both donuts and underground food crazes, Gracie Lee has been creating next-level donuts and delivering them around Perth for the past 5 years, slowly becoming somewhat of an urban legend. “Have you heard about those donuts?” I was excited to include them on this list until I saw a recent update: Glazed and Confused would be on indefinite hiatus. As they say, here for a good time, not a long time!
