Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will begin the operations of its first hydrogen-enriched CNG (HCNG) production plant on 20th Oct 2020. The plant will be set up at the Rajghat-1 bus stop aiming to provide clear fueling for 50 buses on a pilot basis. There has been a long-term issue of availability of clear space for CNG fuel stations in the state. DTC is now planning to set up spaces of 8,500 square metres at different depots for selling clear fuels such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), HCNG, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Hydrogen, etc in service for 24×7 hours in the state. All of such initiatives are part of DTC’s policies for promoting the usage of clean fuels in the state.

Supreme Court Appoints Former Judge The One-Man Committee on Stubble-Burning

The Supreme Court of India has made former apex-court judge MB Lokur the one-man committee to monitor the steps taken by the states of Punjab, Haryana, UP and Delhi to prevent a large-scale stubble burning in the months of October and November. For the last few years, the national capital used to be a gas chamber during the early winters when several festivals, marriage parties, and stubble burns took place around the same period of time. Former justice MB Lokur himself has heard many cases of air pollution in the NCT & NCR. Though it has been a political issue to criticize the governments for, initiatives to tackle the issue of air pollution in the national capital could never be part of political manifestos. The AAP-led government in Delhi has welcomed the decision of the supreme court and called stubble burning the main cause of deteriorating air pollution in the state. The supreme court bench instructed the chief secretaries of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to indulge in complete assistance of Justice Lokur to scrutinize the preparations and physically examine the fields where Stubble burning may take place. The apex court said that authorities already working to prevent stubble burning will now report to the one-man committee.
