Eggscape Entertainment raises $4.25M for social gaming on mixed reality headsets

Eggscape Entertainment has cracked into the world of VC funding with its $4.25 million fundraising to bring social gaming to mixed reality experiences.

Santa Monica, California-based Eggscape Entertainment said it is crafting social games for mixed reality experiences.

Transcend Fund led the round, with contributions from The Venture Reality Fund and strategic angel investor Lautaro Brunatti. This investment will help the company launch its mixed reality game, Eggscape.

Founded by the creators behind Buenos Aires, Argentina-based animation studio 3DAR, Eggscape Entertainment is led by co-founders German Heller, Federico Heller, and Jorge Tereso.

They are known for their immersive VR experiences like Gloomy Eyes featuring Colin Farrell and Paper Birds featuring Edward Norton.

Now the team is on a mission to usher in a new era of mixed-reality gaming. Adding depth to their expertise, Eggscape recently welcomed cofounder Brandon Maseda, bringing a wealth of startup experience in crafting breakthrough consumer experiences with emerging hardware technologies.

Eggscape, designed as a playful and social experience, invites players to explore vibrant interactive environments seamlessly integrated with the real world. The game’s humor and exciting gameplay cater to audiences of all ages. To ensure replayability and the expansion of the Eggverse, players are equipped with a world-building tool, facilitating the creation and sharing of new creations with friends.

“Mixed reality is the perfect medium to bring fun, social gaming experiences to life. It adds a layer to reality where the imagination has no limits. It’s key to be able to play with friends online or side by side, without isolating oneself from the world outside,” said German Heller, CEO of Eggscape Entertainment, in a statement.

Eggscape isn’t merely a standalone game; it represents a pivotal force in shaping the future of social gameplay in mixed reality.

Andrew Sheppard, a partner at Transcend Fund, said in a statement, “The fusion of mixed reality, Pixar quality animation, and social interactions that Eggscape brings to the table create a new gaming experience we have not seen before. We are beyond excited to support Eggscape Entertainment in this venture.”

Tipatat Chennavasin, general partner at The Venture Reality Fund said in a statement, “Entertainment in mixed reality requires a fresh and novel approach to combine spatial awareness with fun and engaging gameplay. The Eggscape team has already demonstrated a compelling vision to build such a platform.”

With expansion packs like Zombie Castle, Rally Racer, and World Cup already in development, the Eggverse is growing fast.

Eggscape currently has a team of more than 35 developers, artists and animators between Buenos Aires and Los Angeles.

Asked about the inspiration for the firm, Heller said to GamesBeat, “For many in our generation, nothing was more exciting than playing video games in the arcades of the ’80s. Back then, we dreamed about how future technologies would enable us to fully immerse ourselves in these fantasy worlds. Those innovations have finally arrived, with inventions like mixed reality and mobile computing. Eggscape is a tribute to the essence of those retro video games, brought to life for the next generation of gamers who are natively raised with these new formats.”
