Nvidia launches GeForce RTX 40 Super series GPUs for gaming and creativity

Nvidia confirmed a sea of rumors today as it announced its GeForce RTX 40 Super Series graphics processing units (GPUs) for gaming and creativity.

The series includes a trio of GPUs — GeForce RTX 4080 Super, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, and GeForce RTX 4070 Super. They’re targeted at the gaming and creative universe, integrating AI as their superpower while offering high-end performance starting at $600.

They’re based on the latest iteration of the Nvidia Ada Lovelace architecture. And the GPUs boast up to 52 shader TFLOPS, 121 RT TFLOPS, and an impressive 836 AI TOPS. These metrics will take gaming and creative capabilities to new heights, empowering developers to craft immersive entertainment worlds and experiences, Nvidia said in an online event today during CES 2024.

The GeForce RTX 4070 Super, starting at $600, serves as the entry point into this lineup. And AI is a big part of what makes it speedy.

Designed to meet the discerning demands of PC gamers, Nvidia’s AI-driven Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction, combined with ray tracing, will usher in breathtaking gaming worlds, Nvidia said.

Titles such as Diablo IV, Pax Dei, and Horizon Forbidden West showcase what these graphics cards can do, Nvidia said. In many cases, AI generates seven out of eight pixels, accelerating full ray tracing by up to four times and delivering superior image quality.

Matt Wuebbling, vice president of global GeForce marketing at Nvidia, said in a statement, “For everyone from gaming enthusiasts to creative professionals, GeForce RTX SUPER GPUs are simply awesome upgrades. They support over 500 RTX games and applications, preparing users for the wave of generative AI apps coming to PC.”

The AI revolution in PC computing

Nvidia has a wave of AI PC customers coming.

The new GeForce RTX Super GPUs have specialized AI Tensor Cores that deliver up to 836 AI TOPS, revolutionize gaming, creative endeavors, and everyday productivity, Nvidia said. The rich software stack built atop RTX GPUs further accelerates AI, offering enhanced capabilities.
