OpenAI’s ChatGPT app hits 500K downloads in just 6 days since launch

OpenAI’s ChatGPT app has amassed more than 500,000 downloads in just 6 days. The app was initially only available to iOS and iPad users in the US.

According to data.ai, ChatGPT is among the highest-performing apps of 2022 and 2023 rivalled only by the February 2022 launch of Former US President Donald Trump’s Truth Social app.

While ChatGPT was launched in November last year, the language model was only available on the official OpenAI website. Since then, a number of apps have appeared on the App Store and Google Play Store, claiming to connect users to ChatGPT from the comfort of their smartphones.

OpenAI finally decided to launch ChatGPT’s official iOS and iPad app for users in the US. The company had also promised to make the app available on Android devices and many more countries soon.

Fulfilling its promise, OpenAI has announced expanding the availability of the ChatGPT app to 11 more countries. The app can now be accessed in Albania, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Brazil, South Korea, New Zealand, the UK, Nigeria, and Nicaragua.

Users with ChatGPT Plus subscription can use OpenAI’s latest language GPT-4 on their iPhones. They will also be able to use other features available with the ChatGPT Plus subscription including plugin support, instant replies, and the elimination of wait times. iOS and iPad users will also be able to ask questions of ChatGPT using their voice.

ChatGPT has amassed a huge user base around the world and is seen as a potential rival to Google Search in the future. The viral chatbot reached the remarkable feat of 100 million daily active users in January this year. While ChatGPT was able to reach 100 million active users in just two months after its public release, popular apps such as TikTok and Instagram took significantly longer to achieve the same feat.
